Born London 1966
Much of Sam’s early life was spent in the family silversmiths workshop in London where he learned an exceptional level of skills from English craftsmen. The workshop produced high-quality silver tableware and sculptural works.
In 1987 he qualified with an Honours degree in Fine Art from Falmouth School of Art. The following year was spent near Siena, Italy. This was a formative year of adventure spent working on his sculpture, drawing and design.
On returning to London in 1989 he set up a commercial workshop, hired a team and began making objects and interiors. He was swiftly commissioned by UK and international clients for interior design projects, furniture and installations. Throughout these years of successful commercial work he continued privately to make poetic sculptures, paintings and drawings.
In 2000 he decided to find an alternative place to live and think. He wanted to combine both his commercial design skills and private creative work. Sam made a fundamental decision to change the approach to how his work was made; every single piece would be made entirely with his own hands.
He found a remote house on a wild hillside in central Italy. The abandoned seventeenth century building and landscape offered the space and solitude to develop his thoughts and approach.
After many years of experiment spent continuously drawing and making sculpture, the first series of works emerged. He had found a new language and his work began to flourish.
Sam’s work is in private collections worldwide. He continues to work as a Creative Director on architectural and interior projects contributing his breath of experience to making exceptional objects and uplifting living environments.
